A series of open track and field meetings held by City of York AC at Huntington stadium.

Fun summer track and field athletics competition, with spot prizes and certificates for winners in all age groups, open to beginners and experienced athletes.
Elite athlete demonstrations throughout the day to inspire participants and spectators
Track events:
Sprints: 75m (U11s), 80m (U13s) 100m (U15s, U17s, Seniors)
Mid-distance: 200m (U15s, U17s, Seniors) 400m (U17s, Seniors)
Distance: 600m (U11s), 800m (U13s, U15s*, U17s, Snrs) 1500m (U15s*, U17s, Snrs)
Field events:
Long jump, high jump, shot putt, discus, javelin

Rules:
All athletes under 17 years are limited to three events at any one meeting
*U15 girls and boys may not compete in both the 800m and 1500m events
3 attempts only for field events
Meetings held under England Athletics rules

Entry
Fees: £2 for first event on each day, £1.50 for subsequent events if booked ahead; £2 per event if entered on the day

Meet 2, 5 July 2008

Despite lashing rain the second meet of the new Ingrams Athletics League went ahead, with 69 athletes dashing in and out of the Huntington stand to make the most of the breaks in the weather. Athletes from under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups were welcomed to this local competition, which invites all abilities to take part in track and field events.

Results from meet 2:
The four events for U11 (75m, 600m, long jump and shot putt) allow competitors entry to each of the disciplines of sprint, endurance, jump and throw. For the under 11 girls, Caoimhe Crampton gained 16 points to take first place, with Rowan Palmour second (14 points) and Ellie Stothard third (13 points). For the under 11 boys, James Fowler leads with 19 points, Thomas Wood takes second (17 points) and William Kimpson is third (16 points).

Competiton for the Under 13s extends to include 2 further run distances as well as high jump and hurdles, but competitors gain points from their top 3 events only. For the U13 girls Emily Haigh leads on 17 points, while Chelsea Walker takes second place with 14 points and Anya Limbert and Josie Parry share third with 13 points each. U13 boys leader Patrick O'Connor has 19 points, followed by Kye Stothard on 11 points and third place is shared between James Proctor and James Stanton each on 10 points.

By U15s the events have developed to standard run distances of 100m, 200m, 800m and 1500m as well as 100m hurdles. The high jump, long jump and shot putt are added to with 2 further throw events; the discus and javelin. Leading the U15 girls on 15 points was Susie Parry, followed on 14 points by no fewer than 4 girls tying for 2nd place: Hannah Elliott, Rachel Parker, Emma Harper and Megan Mussett. U15 boys top position was taken by Daniel O'Connor on maximum 21 points. On 19 points for second was Jordan Bransberg, and in third place with 15 points was Jack Robertson.

For the U17s girls Christina O'Connor took 1st place (14 points), Jessica Lonsdale 2nd (12 points) and joint third were Claire Lebond and Hannah Higginson (7 points). U17 boys winner was Jamie Garbutt on maximum 21 points, Euan Miller came 2nd on 19 points and in third place was Lloyd Woolacott with 7 points.

Meet 1, 15 June 2008

This first meet of the new Ingrams League saw 68 of the regions athletes compete in track and field events on a sunny day down at Huntington Stadium. The Ingrams League is open to athletes of all abilities competing in under 11, under 13, under 15 and under 17 age groups as well as at Senior level and in the disability section. This friendly event has been designed especially to welcome those who are new to athletics and to offer local competition for those who already train regularly. Three further one day meets will be held in York on 5th July, 17th August and 14th September, with further new league entrants welcomed. Results at the end of meet 1:

For the under 11 boys, Louie Hurley leads with 17 points, James Fowler takes second (14 points) and Matthew Parker is third (12 points).

Competiton for the Under 13s develops to include 2 further run distances, with variations for boys and girls. The girls run 150m and 1200m while the boys run 200m and 1500m. High jump and hurdles are also introduced, with competitors choosing any 3 events. For the U13 girls Megan Foster takes maximum 21 points earned from long jump, shot and hurdles, while joint second place with 19 points is taken by Lauren Bird and Emily Haigh. U13 boys leader Elliot Hurley has 19 points, followed by James Proctor and Lewis Beecher each on 16 points to take joint second place.

By U15s the events have developed to standard run distances of 100m, 200m, 800m and 1500m as well as 100m hurdles. The high jump, long jump and shot are added to with 2 further throw events; the discus and javelin. Leading the U15 girls on maximum 21 points was Rebecca Kitching, with Kayleigh Ryall second place on 17 points and in joint third place with 12 points each, Susie Parry and Hannah Elliott. U15 boys top position was shared between Matt Kitching and Ben Lightwing, each with 19 points.

For the U17s and senior athletes, some great performances were seen. U17s: Phillipa Jones threw the hammer 30.74 metres, Jamie Garbutt threw the javelin 20.37 metres, Oliver Bird took 1.62m high jump and Euan Miller ran 400m in 55.7 seconds. Seniors: Katie Roberts triple jumped 8.9 metres, Ali Stedman long jumped 5.25 metres, Paul Young threw the discus 32.95 metres and James Palmer ran 100m in 13.1 seconds. Just watching these older athletes provided great inspiration for our younger competitors.

Chairman of City of York Athletic Club, Neil Hunter says 'We are at the start of what promises to be a fantastic time for athletics. Interest in the sport is increasing with this years Olympics just around the corner and, obviously, the excitement that 2012 is generating. This new Ingrams League has been formed to provide more opportunity for participation and competition for athletes of all ages and abilities in the region. Athletics can help prepare participants with vital life skills such as improved confidence, discipline, motivation and teamwork. I hope entrants get a lot of pleasure from this new league'.
