Club StuffBoth our recent international selections, Les Richards and Richard Buck were unfortunately unable to compete. Les was injurred before his international debut in Belgium while Richard picked up a virus so had to withdraw from the 4x400 relay in the European Cup at Annecy, France.Ingrams Solicitors Summer Athletics League The club is organising a series of 4 open meetings this Summer, called the Ingrams Solicitors Summer Athletics League. The dates are: Sunday 15th June, Saturday 5th July, Sunday 17th August and Sunday 14th September. Please note that City of York AC IS NOT AFFILIATED TO THIS LEAGUE, so members should run in York Acorn vests. If you haven't got one, please contact Andy Hilton, another Acorn committee members or email us using the Contact Us facility of this website. As a health and safety measure, the League does NOT allow the wearing of Ipods (or similar) during races. Competitors wearing them will be disqualified. On 16th July the League has a staggered start handicap from Stillington and Acorn has the responsibility for organising this. We would be grateful for any assistance with marshalling. Road/Trail: 22/6/08: Dawn Gibbs wins the British Masters 5k road Championship at Horwich. Andy Hilton 2nd in the road mile and 13th in the senior 5k, Mark Metcalf 29th in the 5k. 17/6/08: Becky Penty 1st at Bishop Wilton 10k. Dawn Gibbs and Dave Lancaster win their age categories, mens and womens teams 2nd. 15/6/08: Simon Cook wins Castle Howard race on comeback from illness. Becky Penty 1st lady. Acorn mens team triumph beating City of York who were 3rd - hey guys we're not supposed to be in competition !!! Coming up:The road runners are in action on Tuesday (2nd July) in the last of the summer 10k league races, hoping for fast times on the flat course at Selby. There is another race in the series, but that is a staggered start handicap in a couple of weeks. The fell runners have a relay on Otley Chevin on Wednesday.The 2nd Ingrams T&F meeting takes place on Saturday at Huntington Stadium, while the senior T&F teams have their 3rd league match on Sunday. Target Races:The James Herriot Trail race from Castle Bolton on Sunday 27th July is the next target race. We are planning to take a coach to this race, so see John Tattersall or use the Contact Us facility on the website if you are interested.James Herriot Entry Form Hob Moor Relay, 30th AprilUnfortunately we chose a bad night for this as Hob Moor was awash. Hopefully everyone enjoyed it though and we plan to run a similar event in August. Last years results are also shown though the times are not comparable as the course was different this year. Results Under 11's groupThe under 11 group on Monday evenings is running very close to capacity. However, there are now spaces available for training on Friday evenings. Anyone wishing to join either group should email the club using the link below, though you can just turn up for the Friday evening sessions. Email us Christmas (formerly New Year) Relay 2007This took place on the Knavesmire on Thursday 27th December. Results Club Presentation Evening 2007This happened at Next Generation Club on Friday 23rd November and was very well attended. The 3 main trophies were won by Paul Allsop (Gemini, for best T&F performance), Kieran Smith (Hetherton for best off track performance) and Becky Penty (Bleasedale for female distane runner of the year). As well as awards for athletes of the year and most improved athlete, there was a new category for club person of the year.
